Het KNMI geeft dagelijks een zonkrachtverwachting. De zonkracht is een maat voor de hoeveelheid ultraviolette straling (UV) in het zonlicht die de aarde bereikt. Hoe hoger de zon aan de hemel staat, des te meer zonnestraling de atmosfeer binnenkomt. Een deel van die straling is onzichtbaar ultraviolet licht (UV). Je wordt er bruin van, maar een teveel aan UV leidt tot verbranding en kan op termijn huidaandoeningen geven.
