SIGMET of the Netherlands
SIGMET van Nederland

A SIGMET is a warning for (large) aviation that reports on (un)foreseen dangerous weather conditions and should therefore be treated with priority. The area for which the KNMI issues a SIGMET is the Amsterdam FIR, including the concession area in the North Sea (North Sea Area V) and above FL100. A SIGMET can be issued at any time. The validity period of a SIGMET is maximal 4 hours for a regular SIGMET and maximal 6 hours for a SIGMET for Volcanic Ash.

Een SIGMET is een waarschuwing voor de (grote) luchtvaart waarin melding wordt gemaakt van (on)voorziene gevaarlijke weersomstandigheden en dient daarom met voorrang behandeld te worden. Het gebied waarvoor het KNMI een SIGMET uitgeeft is de Amsterdam FIR, inclusief het concessiegebied op de Noordzee (North Sea Area V) en daar ook boven FL100. Een SIGMET kan op elk moment uitgegeven worden. De geldigheidsduur van een SIGMET bedraagt maximaal 4 uur voor een gewone SIGMET en maximaal 6 uur voor een SIGMET voor Volcanic Ash.
