Purpose

Purpose

Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is a statistical indicator for monitoring of precipitation. It compares the total precipitation received at a particular location during a specific time period, with the long-term rainfall distribution for the same period of time at that location. SPI results are given in units of standard deviation from the long-term mean.

Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) is een statistische indicator ten behoeve van monitoring van neerslag. SPI vergelijkt de totale hoeveelheid neerslag die op een locatie in een tijdsperiode is gevallen, met de langjarige kansverdeling van neerslag voor dezelfde tijdsperiode op die locatie. SPI waarden worden uitgedrukt in het aantal standaardafwijkingen verschil met het langjarige gemiddelde.
